About Stuart Newberry

Stu Newberry spent thirty years in the police, retiring as a Detective Superintendent. It’s a career that demands everything — clear thinking under pressure, leading teams through complexity, making decisions when the stakes are high.
But looking back, there’s one thing Stu wishes he’d had more of: a different kind of leadership. Not more tools or techniques — but the clarity and grounding to trust himself, trust his team, and lead from a steadier place.
That’s what drives his coaching now.
A different kind of leadership support
After retiring from the police, Stu wanted to give something back. He was drawn to coaching — and when he discovered the Inside-Out Understanding, something clicked. Here was a way of working with leaders that didn’t involve fixing what was broken or adding more to an already full plate. Because the premise is simple: nothing is broken. The clarity leaders are looking for is already within them. It just needs space to emerge.
This is what Stu wished he’d understood earlier in his own career — that the most powerful thing a leader can do is stop trying to have all the answers, and start trusting the people around them.
Who Stuart works with
Stuart works with leaders in business and education — people who are good at what they do, but who are carrying more than they need to. His clients often come to him feeling the weight of responsibility, uncertain in their own judgement, or struggling to get the best from their teams.
He also works with people navigating significant transitions — stepping into a new role, or preparing to leave one behind. Over two decades, he has worked across public and private sector environments, including with individuals at Board and C-suite level, with a particular focus on the emotional and identity challenges that come with stepping away from a long-held role — and the question of what comes next.=
His approach is person-centred and tailored to each individual — structured enough to provide a clear process, but always shaped around the client’s own pace, goals, and sense of what matters. Every engagement is handled with discretion and care, and the aim is always the same: to help people move into the next chapter feeling clear, grounded, and like themselves.
His approach won’t suit everyone. If you’re looking for a toolkit of techniques and strategies, this probably isn’t the right fit. But if you’re open to something quieter and more grounding — a process that helps you find your own clarity rather than borrowing someone else’s — Stu would be a good person to talk to.

How Stuart works
Stuart works one-to-one, face to face or online. For group or organisational work, he occasionally partners with Liz — bringing together two decades of coaching experience and a shared understanding of what it means to lead well.
